Dentures and Dental Implants

Dentures and dental implants are readily available in Templestowe and the surrounding areas

Studies have found that 3 out of 4 adults have at least one missing tooth. Missing teeth can affect the functionality of the jaw and lead to further problems, including moving teeth and a caved-in appearance to the mouth. King Street Dental Group can help to rectify these problems with a high-quality dental implant procedure or custom-made false teeth.

Custom Dentures for Missing Teeth

Dentures are false teeth which are used to fill the gaps left by missing teeth in a patient’s mouth. They are recommended for many patients, especially those with weak or unhealthy gums. Dentures come in two varieties, depending on the extent of your missing teeth. Your dentist will analyse your situation and make a recommendation that is most suited to your needs.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used when the patient still has most of their natural teeth. They are used to fill gaps from missing teeth and are attached to a plastic base which is then held in place in the mouth with metal framework. Partial dentures are removable and simple to clean.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are used when a patient has little to no remaining teeth in their mouth. Conventional full dentures are placed over a flesh-coloured acrylic base in a patient’s mouth after the tissue has healed. Immediate full dentures are placed into a patient’s mouth immediately after all of the teeth have been removed.

Permanent and Effective Dental Implants

Dental implants come recommended as an alternative to dentures. A tooth implant is a metal frame or post that is surgically placed into a patient’s mouth, allowing replacement teeth to be attached to the structure. The jaw and tissues grow around the implant, making them the most permanent solution to missing teeth.

Implants can be more expensive as a treatment for missing teeth; however, they are the most secure solution and are constructed to resemble the look and feel of natural teeth. Implants can be used as a cracked tooth treatment that prevents future damage and improves the function of the overall jaw.

Are You Eligible for Dental Implants?

Unfortunately, not everyone is eligible to receive dental implants. As they are positioned in the jawbone and under the gums, a patient needs to have healthy and healed gums for the procedure to work perfectly. It is best to discuss your situation with your dentist, and we will assess your eligibility for receiving dental implants.
